Reflections: Psalms 16-21

Reflections Psalms 16-21 Spirit of God Fellowship Church in South Holland, IL

David continues to cry out almost in despair. He is desperate. Then, in Psalms 18, he rejoices because God delivered him from the hand of all his enemies! He seemed so confident and excited. I can imagine him, just like it's recorded, dancing and praising God in the streets. He danced with all his might. David, whether he was worshipping God or making poor, sinful choices, acted with great passion.

Psalm 19 starts with declaring the Glory of God through the things He created. There is something so special when we live in the moment and enjoy some of His creation.  It does direct us to God. He is the creative one. His creation speaks to us without using words.

Then after that, in verses 7-10, we are encouraged that if we keep God's Word, there will be great reward.

Psalms 20—Someone is praying for someone! It could be a model for prayer for us. The people were praying for David.

Psalms 21—David affirms all that God has done for him. God gave him his heart's desire. Now the people were thanking God who fulfilled His Word and won.

As I end my reflections on the first 21 chapters of Psalms, I see that there are many benefits of a life committed to God and that trusting in His timing is key. David waited. He prayed. He waited some more. He rejoiced. But he trusted that God would deliver him in His timing. He let God give it to him. He didn't force it. It reminded me of Habakkuk 2:3, which says the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
