Missions | Spirit of God Fellowship Church

Once a month, a group from Spirit of God Fellowship heads to a neighborhood in need. There, they fire up a grill, unload boxes of clothes, and offer the love of Christ to hundreds of people who are hungry, thirsty, and broken.

Led by Ulises & Gigi Adames, this team is made up of people with a heart for helping those struggling with hardship. Many people the team speaks to are experiencing homelessness, suffering from a mental illness, fighting addiction, or simply facing tough times. Gigi leads worship, and Ulises brings a message of hope, salvation, healing, and restoration. People leave with their bodies and spirits fed, and usually with a few pairs of socks or other donated items to help them survive.

“What they are experiencing is not who they are,” Gigi says. “We want to show them that God’s love for them is unconditional.”

Espiritu de Dios Comunidad Cristiana is our Spanish-speaking sister church, led by Pastor Jose Lopez and his wife Paula. Before Spirit of God Fellowship was a church, it was a Bible study meeting in the basement of the church’s founding pastor, John Sullivan. In that Bible study were Jose and Paula Lopez, who would later become the leaders of Espiritu de Dios Comunidad Cristiana.

Church services are held on Sunday afternoons at 12:30, followed by a dinner. If you’re looking for a Spanish-speaking church for you or your family to grow, love, and serve in, Espiritu de Dios Comunidad Cristiana could be the community for you.

We believe that the mission of the gospel is to love and serve those surrounding us – particularly the hurting. An important way we reach out to the community is through the ministry of an organization that was founded by Spirit of God Fellowship: Restoration Ministries, whose mission is based on Matthew 25:35-36:

Restoration Ministries is a separate, not-for-profit organization which provides two residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs (one for men, one for women), after-school and youth programs (including a boxing club, arts programs, meals, chess club, and literacy programs), a food pantry, and thrift stores (which provide work for the residents and funds for the ministry).

Living With Hope is an organization dedicated to providing resources and training people with disabilities in Africa. This will empower them to reach their highest God-given potential.

This ministry was founded by Michael Panther, who himself is from the war-torn nation of South Sudan, Africa, where illness and war experiences left him in a wheelchair.

In most parts of Africa, people with disabilities are usually excluded from schools, work opportunities and even their own communities because they are considered to be of no value in the society. Living with Hope focuses on wheelchair distribution and educating families and communities to care for and to include people with disabilities as an important part of society. We are thrilled to support this ministry.

Mark and Laura Ambrose serve with Mission to the World in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where they focus on church planting and anti-human trafficking initiatives. Dr. Mark Ambrose leads Family Clinic, which not only provides essential medical services, but also trains Cambodian Christian doctors to practice gospel-centered medicine. This clinic is integral to their church-planting efforts, as it connects healthcare with local churches, facilitating outreach and support for people in need.

In response to the challenges faced by young women exiting rehabilitation programs for trafficking survivors, the Ambroses founded Freedom Ministries. This initiative offers scholarships, housing, and discipleship through local church dorms for college-aged girls. Secondly, there is Dahlia Dorm, a home for younger girls aged 12-18. Freedom Ministries aims to integrate these young women into the church community, providing them with a safe environment where they can heal, grow, and develop their faith. Through their combined efforts in ministry, Mark and Laura Ambrose are making a significant impact on the lives of those they serve in Cambodia, and we are happy to give to this ministry.
