Spirit of God Fellowship began in 1972 with a small group of people getting together in a house to pray and study the Bible. We all came from different religious backgrounds: Catholic, Protestant Reformed, Baptist, etc. We wanted to experience God in a way that we had never felt before. We were all looking for something more.
As we continued to meet and seek after God through studying the Bible, amazing things started happening. People began to come into a real relationship with Jesus Christ, and our lives started to change. The emptiness that we had felt in church was filled with the love of Christ. We all felt a new excitement to live for Jesus, and to help others experience the same Jesus that we were experiencing. We were meeting in John & Barb Sullivan’s house at the time, and each week our bible study grew.
We eventually become our own church and named it “Spirit of God Fellowship.” We wanted the name to signify who we were in Christ and what we were doing when we met together. We started Youth Groups, Kid’s Church services, and House Church Groups. We eventually gathered up the funds to build a place to call our own, “The Fellowship Hall.” Finally, we had our own building to hold services, prayer gatherings, Kid’s Church Sundays, and worship events. We had been so blessed by God in being obedient to His call for our lives, and we loved every minute of it.
But most importantly, Spirit of God Fellowship is a group of people with a story of where God has brought us. We strive to be more like Jesus, and are guided by the Holy Spirit in our every-day lives. We are the average everyday person, definitely not perfect, and perhaps sometimes a little rough around the edges, but we are diligently seeking after God, and our lives have been radically changed by Him. What started out as something small, God turned into something extraordinary. All honor and praise be given to God for all He has done for us!
